Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) continues to advance its commitment to sustainable agroforestry development through a ceremonial signing of partnership with the Open Paradigm Center–CMC, Incorporated, recently held at the University, on 20 January 2026.Β

The agreement was formally signed by TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson and Mr. Apolinario M. De Leon, Jr., Head of the partner corporation, signifying collaborative initiatives for environmental stewardship and livelihood development.

As a manifestation of the strong partnership, the Open Paradigm Center also awarded 50 Agar Wood seedlings to TAU. These seedlings will serve as mother plants and will be planted at Titi-Calao, the University’s forest reserve, to support future propagation efforts.

With this engagement, TAU will serve as the primary provider of technical assistance and capacity-building activities for the Center, particularly in Agar Wood cultivation and nursery establishment, in compliance with the protocols of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Furthermore, the Open Paradigm Center expressed its intent to establish TAU as a center for Agar Wood propagation and nursery development, strengthening the University’s role in advancing research-based and community-oriented forestry programs. The Center is widely recognized for its socio-civic initiatives, particularly in empowering the poorest of the poor by equipping them with skills in Agar Wood propagation and resin extraction the primary raw material used in the production of perfumes and other scented products.

This initiative is being led by the Department of Extension and Training (DET), headed by Dr. Agnes C. Perey, and supported by the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF), under the leadership of its Dean, Dr. Sinamar E. Estudillo.

When fully realized, this collaboration will create opportunities that benefit both the environment and local communities, underscoring TAU’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development.
