Promoting bamboo as a sustainable material for arts and livelihood, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) proved its competence through local craftsmanship and bagged multiple awards during the 2025 Kauayan Arts and Crafts Contest held from 27 to 29 October at the Roof Deck, Tarlac Capitol Center Building, San Roque, Tarlac City.

Initiated by the Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT) in collaboration with Tarlac Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council (TPBIDC), and through the management of Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PCEDO), the contest not only preserves cultural artistry but also positions bamboo as a modern economic driver for sustainable development.

During the event, bamboo artisans, students, and entrepreneurs from various municipalities in Tarlac and Region III compete in three categories: Food, Non-Food Handcrafted, and Non-Food Industrial. Special awards were also given, such as Governorโ€™s Choice, PCEDOโ€™s Choice, Most Innovative, Excellence in Craftsmanship, Best in Market-Ready Product, Tatak-Tarlac, and Culinary Creativity.

Fifty (50) students from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) participated in Universitas Brawijayaโ€™s (UB) 6th International Conference on Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine for Students (ICAVETS-VEIN) centered on the theme โ€œTechnology and Innovation for Sustainable Livestock Production to Support Global Security,โ€ held on 3 November 2025 via Zoom.

This engagement provided the students with deeper insights through a series of lectures and discussions delivered by resource speakers from Indonesia, Singapore, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Malaysia.

TAU students also gained ideas on the United Nationsโ€™ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the eventโ€™s paper competition, which focuses on the following SDGs: (2) Zero Hunger, (9) Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, (12) Responsible Consumption and Production, and (13) Climate Action.

Ms. Mileatte P. Omaney, a forester and faculty member from the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), presented the study titled โ€œWatershed Characterization for a Sustainable Framework in Mitigating Climate Change at TAU-Calao Forest Reserve, San Jose, Mayantoc, Tarlacโ€ during the 2nd International PFEN Conference and General Assembly held at Visayas State University (VSU), Leyte, on 21โ€“25 October 2025.

The said study is a collaborative effort between Ms. Omaney and her fellow CAF faculty researchers, namely Ms. Maidas L. Anson, Mr. Julius Rae R. Allam, Ms. Minda M. Mondiguing, and Ms. Raquel B. Sigue.

With the theme โ€œBuilding Bridges towards Responsive, Responsible, and Sustainable Forest Landscape Restoration,โ€ the event served as a platform to gather PFEN State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) members, experts, researchers, and foresters across the Philippines to collaborate and expand knowledge in the field of forestry through research forums, as well as on-site PRC license renewals for foresters.
