Universities and local government units strengthened their commitment to sustainable development as the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Philippines (SDSN PH) convened stakeholders during the Luzon Roadshow on 17 April at Ateneo de Naga University. The event underscored the vital role of university-town partnerships in localizing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) catch-up plans, highlighting collaborative strategies that translate research, innovation, and community engagement into inclusive and sustainable local development.
Representing Tarlac Agriculture University (TAU) were Dr. Marianne P. Villaruel, Director of External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) office, and Ar. Yoana Alexis F. Juan, Chief of the Institutional Development and Resource Generation (IDRG) unit.ย
During the SDSN PH Luzon Roadshow on Localizing SDG Catch-Up Plans, Dr. Villaruel and Ar. Juan engaged in panel discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and collaborative dialogues with local government units and partner institutions to strengthen universityโtown partnerships for sustainable development.
The discussions included Panel Discussion 1: Knowledge Partnership for SDGs where the speakers emphasized that universities must adopt creative and community-engaged approaches by aligning research with societal needs and development plans for sustainable impact.ย
In Panel Discussion 2: Collaborating for SDG solutions, participants were encouraged to focus on inclusive, citizen-driven development through strategic planning anchored on priority sectors and SDG goals, with strong collaboration between communities and universities. It also emphasized the need to translate research into policies and institutionalize initiatives to ensure sustainability and continuity across leadership changes.
Subsequently to the discussions, the host agency engaged the participants in the sharing of localized SDG initiatives during the breakout session.
The SDSN PH Luzon Roadshow concluded with a reaffirmation of collaborative commitment among universities, LGUs, and partner institutions to advance SDG localization.
