The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) through the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) trained students from the Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences (BSESS) in badminton coaching and officiating during the workshop titled โ€œMastering the Court: Training Workshop in Badminton Coaching and Officiatingโ€ on 13 October at the Gilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Gymnasium.

ย

50 first-year students were trained to strengthen their professional competence in modern badminton coaching strategies, Badminton World Federation (BWF) laws, and standard officiating procedures. It also prepared them to take on technical officiating roles in university intramurals and local athletic events.

ย

The program emphasized standardized badminton instruction and evidence-based athletic conditioning, equipping students with technical knowledge and practical skills applicable to sports training and competition management.

ย

It also sought to develop studentsโ€™ competencies as umpires, service judges and line judges, while providing technical certification opportunities to support their upcoming internships, on-the-job training (OJT) and professional portfolios.

ย

Dr. Angelo P. Guillermo, a faculty member of CAS, expressed enthusiasm over the conduct of the training, noting that the initiative had long been anticipated by the faculty.

ย

โ€œThis training seminar on badminton officiating for our BSESS students has been a long time coming, and we, the faculty, are excited to finally make it happen,โ€ Dr. Guillermo said. โ€œThis is also to expose our students to the industry of officiating and coaching, especially in badminton,โ€ he added.

ย

Through the initiative, TAU strengthened its efforts to provide students with practical learning experiences that connect academic preparation with professional opportunities in sports coaching and officiating.
