Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) took a significant step toward uplifting the province's textile and weaving sector by hosting a coordination meeting with the Department of Science and TechnologyโPhilippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on July 28, 2026, at the Office of the University President. The gathering, led by DOST-PTRI Director IV Dr. Julius L. Leaรฑo Jr. and staff member Mr. Mark Ryan Aluan, explored collaborative opportunities between the two institutions in support of the Provincial Government of Tarlac's weaving and textile development initiatives, with discussions centering on technical capability-building, research and extension services, and technology transfer for local weavers and crocheters.
University President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson attended the meeting, joined by Executive Secretary Mr. Orlando Locading, Department of Business and Auxiliary Services Director Jay-ar A. De Mayo, Engineered Bamboo Project-in-Charge Mr. Julius Basilio, and College of Education faculty members and weavers Ms. Emily Aquino and Mr. Mark Lawrence Dupitas. The dialogue underscored TAU's potential role in advancing training, product development, incubation, entrepreneurship, and market linkage initiatives for the province's weaving communities, positioning the university as a key partner in nurturing homegrown talent and innovation.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of TAU, DOST-PTRI, and the Provincial Government of Tarlac to strengthen sustainable livelihood opportunities while preserving Tarlac's rich cultural heritage through science, technology, and innovation. With faculty development, student engagement, and technical assistance identified as priority areas, the collaboration is expected to pave the way for concrete programs that will elevate the province's textile industry in the coming months.
